From the collection of Oscar De LaRenta, this room was an instant eye grabber for me and I couldn’t stop noticing the details. The center piece is the huge painting, which forces you to look at it, and then get to notice everything else.
The space looks of equal straight dimensions with no curves and the pieces of furniture are put in a symmetrical order creating balance on both sides.
A couple of differently shaped side tables form unique pieces. One has a velvet top with round edges and wooden base with big brass nails. While the other is even square shape at the top with a storage unit and what seems to be hallow cubes of some kind of metal painted in gold for the base. Although they are not identical, the two side tables look fantastic with the rest of the items on display.
The choice of the wall paint is dark for a living space so maybe it won’t be a color I would chose but it definitely goes very well with the rest of the items and the general classy feel of the room.
I wouldn’t think this room can be used for a long sitting duration, due to the nature of the sofas used – but rather as perhaps a little formal side of a room. The arm rests extending in height makes them less comfortable.
The blue degrees and turquoise color is very unique and daring.
The sofa’s main upholstery is plain beige while the cushions vary in pattern and upholstery type, again creating a much desired difference. One type of cushions seems to be turquoise velvet – exactly the same one used for the right side table – while the other, has dark and light blue print patterns and seems to be cotton.
The coffee table is dark brown wood but the wood matches the flooring around it. And under the same table, is a good sized rug extending with gradient colors ranging between, grey, beige, and degrees of blue.
My personal favorite piece is the storage unit under the painting placed in the center, with its very daring and vibrant color. It’s got some gold color metal fixtures as well, and an oriental overall look. To the sides, two identical round shape table lamps are placed.
To conclude, the room definitely gives a rich classy formal feel and it’s definitely given me something to think about in terms of using blue shades and velvet for upholstery.
